As the name suggests, building law is about buildings. This includes the construction of someone’s home or area of their home, and commercial building work such as the building of an office block or a retail ship fit-out.

Building law is triggered by a variety of legislative acts, including the Domestic Buildings Contracts Act, Building Act and many more. Generally, a building issue at VCAT involves a dispute between a home owner and a builder or sub contractor over defects, unfinished work or unpaid invoices.

Most of the time I work for property owners or builders who are innocent of any wrongdoing but are victims of a misunderstanding. Steady guidance can save a lot of heartache, costs and concern in these situations.
